My research focuses
primarily on nonconscious processing of words and pictures. To get
at this, I use the masked priming paradigm with several different
dependent measures, including reaction times and error rates and (mostly
these days) kinematic measures. I have recently begun to incorporate
EEG and TMS in my research too.
A primary question
in this work has to do with the "depth of processing" of
nonconsciously perceived information. A second issue is concerned
with the "autonomy" of nonconscious processes. For example,
is it possible to "control" nonconsicously elicited processes?
Are nonconscious processes modulated by attention?
